American artist Augustina Droze (b. 1981) employs animals as symbolic narrators of her personal experience. Her work reflects life as a foreigner and mother, framing the world as at once exotic, beautiful, and bewildering. Based in Beijing for the past decade, she fuses Eastern and Western elements into vibrant paintings and installations marked by Rococo-inspired abundance. These immersive works form a modern mythology—dreamlike landscapes alive with symbolism and contradiction.
Droze’s art has been exhibited widely, including the Castellani Art Museum (2014), Banaras Hindu University as a Fulbright Senior Scholar (2017), the U.S. Embassy Beijing American Center as a Distinguished Artist Envoy (2022), the London Biennale (2023), the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum (2024), and the Carrousel du Louvre (2025). In addition to her studio practice, she has completed major public art projects worldwide, with commissions from Forbes Company, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Tucson Pima Arts Council, and Nagpur International Airport, among others.
